“When I was a kid, I would fly kites. Get some paper kites. I would be able to put them together and fly them with a friend of mine,” reveals Peter Syversen, Owner and Operator of Pete’s Kite Shop.

“What drew me back to it was my drafting and design and art background.”
The art of paper crafts has always intrigued Pete. From the time he was a child all the way into his present adulthood, Pete finds interest in paper art and paper crafts due to not only the design of the art, but also the excitement of the engineering and building aspects of kite-making.
In the words of Peter Syversen, Owner and Operator of Pete’s Kite Shop:
“I express myself with art that I create. I attended some kite festivals which had strong winds to launch kites of every size. Very large whales. Small fighter kites. All kites need their own wind condition suitable for a controlled flight. It is best to be prepared with several types of kites that will fly in all conditions. Obviously, bamboo and paper kites are the most delicate types. Practice with a durable nylon and fiberglass kites give you the feel for the activity.
Paper is a beautiful medium to work with. Artistic possibility is wide open. Adults and children can get involved in the fun of making and flying. Outdoor activities get us interested in weather and planning for good flight conditions. Kite designs can be reproduced with paper, bamboo and string, but are also made with hi-tech cloths, sails and fiber frames.”
